Romance is like a Tango

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

If you chase it, it will retreat.
But the converse also applies…
if you retreat, it will chase you.

Such is the nature of the tango.
And it strikes me, such is the nature of life. Where is this even going? It’s partly engrained in our minds that we have to reach for the stars.

They never tell you the stars will come to you. But isnt that what the tango is all about? The harder you reach for the stars, the smaller and farther away they seem. And when you aren’t looking, they are well within reach.
But then…boom…you turn your attention to them, and they shrink back into the velvet sky as if they never moved. So how can we overcome this?

Its how all lost things get found…
I stopped searching for it.

So, is the answer to stop searching for them?
Leave it to destiny.
No, I dont think thats the answer. Everyone has a passion. Everyone has problems. Sometimes peoples passions overwhelm their problems, and more often than not their problems overwhelm their passions. So, the solution is staring all of us in the face.

balance

How many times have I preached this word? How often have I ignored my own preaching? Why dont we tell a football coach to run a buttonhook, shall we? The answer is there, and its simple. Once upon a time, humans understood that. I’ve seen it. Staring into the face of ruins, thousands of years old, you learn something about humanity.
Endured, constructed, rebuilt, and reconstructed.
Staring into the face of personal ruin can bring you to a similar conclusion.
Knew, learned, realized, understood.

The keyword is balance.

Dont chase.
Dont retreat.

To make sense of the universe is not always an easy task.
Anger, frustration, lethargic, problems.
These need to be replaced. Its way too easy to get caught up. I dont mean caught up like you might forget to eat because you are too busy, or you might miss dinner with your wife because you are too engrossed. I mean, you are like that kitten stuck in an entire ball of yarn. You started just to play with it, fondle it with your claws, maybe cough up a hairball with a bit of red fuzz in it. But, eventually you get tangled in the entire ball.
I mean, you are like a hamster running on a wheel for some exercise. But then, you get inside a clear ball for some fresh air, and you are trapped and at the will and mercy of somebody else.
Isnt that how life feels sometimes? Is this a monologue? Or is this a form of revalation.

Who will cry when you die?

Stuck in a ball, stuck in yarn, stuck in mind, stuck in life.

By this time, I should be explaining balance. Not preaching, but explaining.

If you stop looking for what is lost, how can you expect to find it? You might stumble across it, but is that finding it?

Channel energy where it belongs is the true spirit of this. Channel: not a frequency to oscillate at. Channel: not the bed of a river. Channel: not a meeting place on a network. But rather all of these. This energy, not oscillated in the tone of anger, but rather directed towards the air of socialization. Even thisrequires balance. How confusing can this get?

And now, can’t you see both you and I have started chasing this alluring resolution. If that doesnt deserve a smiley face, I cannot say what does.

Art has balance. Music has bass and treble. Woodwinds and brass, with percussion thrown in to keep things spicy. Love has balance. Man and woman, with romance thrown in to add a little flavor. And life has balance. And we, as humans, get confused often. What is yin and yang? Anger and happiness? No.

Its passion and calm. Energy should never be directed towards problems. Only to solutions.

Dont cry over split milk

This is not the message to send. If you are awake you can avoid spilling milk in the first place. That is a post for another time and another place.

Step 1. Dont spill the milk.
Step 2. If the milk is split, pour yourself a new glass.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

That is not the message to send. People will spend their entire lives searching for sugar and water.

Candles, anyone? The perfect balance of fuel and oxygen.

How to fabricate balance is an enigma. That has to be created, one situation at a time.
Observe, collect, rectify, waken.

Balance is going with the flow. Balance is living in the moment.
The catch comes here..
Dont get swept up by the current. Never let the moment slip out from under you.
That ladies and gentlemen, is the essence of balance.

Its importance is undeniable. Its concept is hard to grasp. Its meaning is valuable. Its necessity is life-critical.

If you dont get it or need help, drop me a line.

She’s on the Darkside

Thursday, June 1st, 2006

So God has a way of being fucking sweet. God just has a way of owning you that is just beautiful. Its like playing Halo against someone infinitely better than you, after getting your ass handed to you enough times you come to realize how fucking badass your opponent is. So basically I gave up my luck for this week. I said, I need a week where I do things without divine interference. And consequently I got my ass handed to me. In chronological order, these are the events of ass-handedness that stood out to me:

  • Accomplished nothing of the many things I had planned for the weekend.
  • Didn’t properly send off my girlfiend to chi-town.
  • Accidentalliy ran over Sheenika’s cell phone with Joe’s car.
  • Didn’t get adequate sleep, ever
  • Slept through CSE 105 quiz, as a consequence of not getting adequate sleep.
  • Spent Wednesday trying to do my ECE project, and so obviously broke my circuit.
  • Spent Wednesay night realizing I had a Psychology paper due, not to mention ECE quiz.
  • Finished psyc paper at 8:00 am, and studied for my ECE quiz for half an hour.
  • Consequently passed out at 8:30, only to come to at 11:30 AFTER the ECE quiz and just in time to turn in the psyc paper.
  • Continued working on ECE circuit, and burned myself with a 700 degree soldering iron. That was at 3:00 pm. It STILL burns.
  • And it turns out, after destroying my IC, it wasnt the IC afterall…its some unknown cause that we can only assume is God playing tricks on my hundreds digit.
  • And the week is not yet over…

Moral of the story: Get enough sleep. Dont sleep through two quizzes in one week. Try not to burn yourself excessively.

Also, be careful about asking for your luck to dissappear, because it will.
I wait until she she returns from the darkside. I wait now for my luck, and the grace of God.And while the darkside looms overhead, I plan to be on my toes.
Title inspired by Massive Attack - Angel

You are my angel
Come from way above
To bring me love

Her eyes
She’s on the dark side
Neutralize
Every man in sight

To love you, love you, love you …
